Are Sarms Legal? Sarmsstore

Updated September 2026. SARMs Store sells research compounds only. Nothing on this page is medical advice, legal advice or an instruction for human use. Law changes, so check current official sources before acting on anything here.

This is the question the site is asked more than any other, and the short answer is that SARMs occupy a narrow legal space that is often described wrongly in both directions. They are not banned drugs, and they are not freely sellable consumer supplements either. What matters is not what the compound is but what it is sold for. This guide sets out the UK position in 2026, the anti-doping rules alongside it, and the position in the other countries readers ask about most.

The UK position in 2026

They are not controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. No SARM is a named controlled substance. Anabolic steroids are Class C drugs under that Act, with possession for personal use lawful and supply an offence, but SARMs are not steroids and none of the commonly sold compounds appears in the Class C list. Ostarine, LGD-4033, RAD-140, Andarine, S-23, Cardarine and SR-9009 are all outside it. The position is less clean for steroidal compounds sold under the SARM banner, YK-11 being the obvious example, because Class C is defined partly by structure as well as by name.

The Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 does not apply. It is sometimes cited and it is the wrong statute. It covers substances producing a psychoactive effect by stimulating or depressing the central nervous system. SARMs act on the androgen receptor in peripheral tissue and are not psychoactive.

The real control is the Human Medicines Regulations 2012. A product is a medicinal product if it is presented as having properties for treating or preventing disease, or administered with a view to restoring, correcting or modifying a physiological function by pharmacological action. A compound that modulates androgen receptors to change muscle mass fits the second limb squarely. Selling, supplying or advertising an unlicensed medicinal product for human use is an offence, and none of these compounds holds a UK marketing authorisation.

What the MHRA does about it. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enforces. It has issued public warnings about SARMs sold as sports supplements, acted against UK websites marketing them for human consumption, and worked with Border Force on imports. Enforcement has focused on sellers presenting these compounds as supplements, with dosing instructions or muscle gain claims, rather than on individual purchasers. That is why a legitimate UK supplier sells strictly as a research compound, gives no dosing guidance and carries a research-only notice.

So where does that leave a buyer? Buying and possessing SARMs as research compounds is lawful in the UK, because there is no control order to breach. What is not lawful is selling or advertising them for human use. The legality attaches to the transaction and the presentation, not to the molecule.

Sport: WADA and UK Anti-Doping

This part is not a grey area. SARMs have been on the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List since 2008 and are prohibited at all times, in and out of competition, under section S1.2 as “other anabolic agents”. Ostarine, LGD-4033, RAD-140, Andarine and S-23 all fall there. MK-677 is prohibited separately under section S2 as a growth hormone secretagogue, and Cardarine and SR-9009 under section S4.5 as metabolic modulators. UK Anti-Doping enforces the same list.

Detection is routine and sensitive, and metabolites remain detectable long after use. Many anti-doping cases have involved athletes who tested positive for Ostarine or Andarine after taking a supplement that did not list them on the label, a contamination problem rather than a deliberate doping one, and the strongest available argument for third-party batch testing. Any athlete in a tested sport should treat all of these compounds as prohibited without exception.

The position elsewhere

Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες. SARMs are not scheduled under the Controlled Substances Act, and they are not lawful dietary ingredients either. The Food and Drug Administration has issued public safety communications about SARMs in body-building products and warning letters to companies marketing them as supplements, taking the position that they are unapproved drugs. Several attempts have been made in Congress to bring SARMs under the Controlled Substances Act through a SARMs Control Act, and as of this writing no such bill has been enacted. The position could change, so check current sources.

Αυστραλία. SARMs are Schedule 4 substances under the Poisons Standard, meaning prescription only medicines. That is considerably more restrictive than the UK: importation without the appropriate authority is not permitted, the Therapeutic Goods Administration has acted on SARM imports, and Border Force seizures are common. This is the practical reason UK suppliers, including this one, restrict or decline shipping to Australia.

Καναδάς. SARMs are not approved by Health Canada for any use and are not authorised for sale. Health Canada has issued advisories about products containing SARMs and acted on unauthorised health products. Import can be stopped at the border.

Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση. There is no single EU-wide SARM ban, and broadly the UK logic applies: SARMs are not authorised medicinal products, so selling them for human consumption is unlawful in member states under national implementations of EU pharmaceutical law, and they are not permitted food supplement ingredients. Some member states apply doping legislation that criminalises supply more severely than the UK does, so check locally.

Κίνα. In 2019 the Chinese authorities added a substantial list of performance-enhancing substances, including SARMs, to controls on production and export, requiring licensing for manufacture. Since China had been the origin of most of the world’s raw SARM material, this reshaped global supply, pushed prices up and increased the incentive for substitution further down the chain. It is one more reason to buy material tested after it reached the UK.

The legal position and the quality question are connected. A seller willing to advertise these compounds for human use, with dosing tables and physique photography, has already shown a willingness to ignore the rules. Look for a batch-specific certificate of analysis from an independent laboratory, identity confirmed by HPLC or LC-MS, a stated purity figure, a batch number matching the bottle, clear labelling of compound and strength, UK manufacture and an explicit research-only notice. Dexters Labs research compounds are made in the UK, supplied at 90 capsules per bottle, and third-party tested batch by batch, with certificates linked from each product page.

Συχνές ερωτήσεις

Are SARMs illegal to buy in the UK? No. They are not controlled substances and there is no offence of possession. They are sold lawfully as research compounds.

Is it illegal to sell SARMs in the UK? Selling or advertising them for human use is unlawful under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, because they are unlicensed medicines. Selling them as research compounds, without human use claims, is the position UK suppliers take.

Can I be prosecuted for possessing SARMs? There is no possession offence for compounds that are not controlled. This page is not legal advice.

Are SARMs banned in sport? Yes, completely. WADA prohibits them at all times and UK Anti-Doping applies the same list. Detection is routine.

Can SARMs be imported into the UK? Personal imports of unlicensed medicines can be stopped by Border Force, and outcomes depend on presentation and quantity. Buying from a UK supplier avoids the question.

Has the law changed recently? The UK framework has been stable, resting on medicines law rather than drugs law. Legislative attempts in the United States and tightening elsewhere mean the international picture moves, so check current official sources.
